Geotechnical Studies Onshore & Offshore
Site Investigation for the various Civil Engineering Structures (Roads, Dams, Tunnels & Buildings.
Analysis and synthesis of the results of the field investigations and in situ and lab tests in order to draw up the proper recommendations for a safe and economic structure such as :
- Recommendations for the type and depth of foundation of buildings
- Recommendations concerning the adoption of preventive measures to avoid the failure of buildings constructed on expansive soils and other types of difficult soils.
- Recommendations of safe slope angles for earth works.
Drilling Equipment and Machinery
All the rigs are equipped with complete hydraulic drive and are adapted for utilizing either the air-flush or the wet rotary drilling methods. They are capable of performing any type of drilling.

Geophysical Surveying
Delma laboratory use Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) technique, which is one of the best non-destructive site characterization technique used for evaluating stiffness of the ground for geotechnical engineering purpose. MASW is a seismic wave propagation method which generates a shear wave velocity (Vs) profile (i.e. Vs versus depth) by analyzing Rayleigh type surface wave on a multichannel record. Surface waves responds most effectively to various types of near surface anomalies that are common targets of this geophysical investigation.
The scope of the geophysical services offered using MASW method is:
- To analyze Rayleigh type surface waves
- Calculating shear wave velocity from the analyzed surface waves
- Use calculated shear wave velocity (VS30) to classify the site according to the seismic site classification scheme defined in Abu Dhabi International Building Code (ADIBC 2013)
- Locating sub-surface anomalous zones such as cavities, unconsolidated weak zones and loose soil formations within the depth of investigation.
- Understanding the nature and composition of soil/rock formations.
Geophysical Equipment and Data Processing Software
Seismograph
- Echo 24/2010 Seismic unit of AMBR GEO will be used which is a 24-channel seismograph with in-built PC.
Source
- A fairly heavy sledge hammer (e.g.20lbs) will be used as seismic source. A base plate will be used to reduce the intrusion of source impact point into the soil.
Receivers
- 24 Geophones of lower frequencies (e.g. 4.5 Hz) mounted on a land streamer will be used. Effectiveness of the high frequency geophones (10-20 Hz) are often comparable with that of much lower frequency ones.
Data Processing Software SurfSeis
- The latest version of SurfSeis (ver. 5.2) provided by Kansas Geological Survey will be used for processing and interpreting MASW data.
